is the word knickers a common term for mens tanga underwear?

my ex and a few woman i know used to call the type of mens underwear i use knickers. is this common as i always remember my underwear being called knickers when i was a kid as well. i guess they meant the style. is this a common term still?

1. yes its still common, (where I live at least), but it usually refers to womens underwear
2. I'm not sure exactly when the word comes into effect, but I'm guessing that the less of them there are, the more likely it is going to be used to discribe them
3. I'd say not. Men's undies are pants, briefs, boxers, undies, thongs, tanga, bikini and so on. Using knickers for men's undies is not common.
4. I've never heard anyone use it before but I could easily guess what it meant.
